Since starting in 2008, the Valley’s Metro Light Rail has served Phoenix, Tempe and Mesa. The system has been more popular among riders than many had anticipated. An Interstate-10 West extension is on the way, and a central Mesa extension is expected to be operating by mid 2015, but the idea of light rail in Scottsdale has never gained traction.

Fire officials in the state say, despite the loss of lives
in the Yarnell Hill wildfire, the number of acres burned this fire season was
the smallest in years. Carrie Dennett of the state Forestry Division says about
91,000 acres of state and federal land were charred this year, but that

Dive teams continued to search Bartlett Lake Monday for the body of a man went into the water Sunday and never resurfaced. It was not immediately known who the victim was, but today the family of former Major League Baseball pitcher Frank Castillo told KVIA El Paso in a statement that it was Castillo who drowned in the lake.
