Arizona’s unemployment rate last month rose three-tenths of
a percent to 8.3 percent. The state added nearly 40,000 jobs in August, which is about
Arizona’s 10-year average, but it is less than the two previous years.
It seems like we have been here before on a never-ending cycle of political posturing over shutting down the government unless the Affordable Care Act is stopped, overturned, kicked to the curb. But that is causing some disagreement among Republicans as many in the House want to tie raising the debt ceiling to defunding the Affordable Care Act, while some in the Senate are saying, 'What’s the point?’ as that Democratically-controlled body and the White House will not let it go through.
The National Transportation Safety Board is examining the
wreckage of a Vietnam-era ‘Huey’ helicopter, that crashed near Mayer over the
weekend. The crash killed 25-year-old Brynne Smith of Scottsdale and a second person on
board, who is believed to have been the pilot.
Starting Oct.1, Americans can buy health plans set up by President Obama’s Affordable Care Act. Arizona residents without insurance will have 106 new plans to choose from when enrollment begins next week, and those who live in metro Phoenix will have even more options.

Hill Fire. Corporations like Motorola, the Arizona Cardinals and media
personality Glen Beck have contributed thousands of dollars to the 100 Club of
Arizona, an organization that provides financial and emotional support to the
families of first-responders who are killed
or injured in the line of duty.
helicopter pilots are being credited with helping the pilot of a small plane, after
his landing gear failed. Officer Darren Rigsby said he and his partner, both of
whom are flight instructors, were in the area when they found out about the
mechanical problems with the 1970 Cessna.
The Pinal County Sheriff's Office said eight suspected
undocumented immigrants have been hospitalized after being found in the back of
a U-Haul truck at a gas station northwest of Tucson. Chief Deputy Steve Henry said each of
them had paid $5,000 to be transported from Douglas to Phoenix, but that it was just too hot inside
On Tuesday, a memorial service attended by Vice President Joe Biden, Senator John McCain and other diginitaries paid tribute to the 19 firefighters who were killed by the out of control blaze. Less than two weeks after that tragedy, residents are returning home and trying to get back to what had been normal life.

The Yavapai County Sheriff’s
Office says a third accused looter is under arrest for stealing items from
homes that were evacuated as a result of the Yarnell hill fire. Sheriff’s
spokesman Dwight D’Evelyn says 22-year-old Thomas Adams was found with a gun
taken from a Yarnell home.

Gas prices are up slightly in Arizona from a week ago. The statewide
average jumped 2 cents from last Friday to $3.58 a gallon. But, Stephanie
Dembowski of AAA Arizona says that's a lot less than last week's dime increase.
The FBI has been conducting a massive child sex trafficking sting across the country over the last few days. Some of the children being victimized were from Phoenix. The enforcement operation involved 47 FBI divisions across the country and led to the recovery of 105 children who had been forced into prostitution.

being hailed as the largest office deal in state history.
Arizona’s Attorney General
is asking a federal commission to let state election officials verify the
citizenship status of all prospective voters. In June, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that Arizona cannot ask
voters who register using a federal form to provide proof of citizenship.
