The deaths of a man and woman, who were struck by lightning
at an overlook north of the Grand Canyon this week, was not surprising to
meteorologists. The National Weather Service says 14 people have been killed by
lightning strikes so far this year with Arizona
and Florida
leading the country, with three fatalities each.

held office for more than a decade. The
Arizona Daily Star reports the college has been put on probation, after a recent
investigation found sweeping problems at the school, including corrupt hiring
and contracting practices and the mishandling of sexual harassment claims.

Recent monsoon rain showers have cut off the water supply on the Havasupai reservation. In response, St. Mary’s Food Bank will start shipping water to the Grand Canyon Wednesday morning. St. Mary’s said it is sending 30,000 bottles of water to the Havasupai Nation because torrential rain and flooding have damaged the area’s electrical supply.

response to critical issues during her tenure. But, she ended her address by giving
advice to her successor, saying that security problems will continue,
