Firefighters are battling a 40 acre wildfire at Rincon Canyon near Safford in southeast Arizona. The so-called Marijilda fire is about 70 percent contained. Coronado National Forest spokeswoman Heidi Schewel said 30 firefighters are working the blaze that has spread in oak trees and brush.
Arizona's public schools continue trying to climb back from deep cuts to their budgets over the past several years. Their planning for the next fiscal year has not been helped by delayed state budget talks at the Capitol.
An economic forecast
is out for Arizona, and it looks hazy. According to experts at Arizona State
University’s W.P. Carey School of Business, the state’s economy is getting better, but it is happening

Last Friday a federal judge ruled the Maricopa County
Sheriff’s Office engaged in racial profiling against Latinos. The court ordered
the sheriff’s department stop those practices. Attorneys for the plaintiffs indicate
they will ask the court to appoint a monitor to make sure the sheriff’s office complies.

A new poll shows there is strong support from across the political spectrum in Arizona, for the

from the conservative-leaning Harper Polling, shows 65 percent of state
residents of all political parties, favor the measure, which includes a path to
citizenship for undocumented immigrants already in the US.
