Voting continues Monday in Phoenix, ahead of the official Election
Day tomorrow. Residents are able to cast their ballots at any of 27 voting
centers across the city. There are three issues on the ballot – two related to changes
to the city’s public pension system, and a proposal to allow private security
to issue citations to riders of public transit in Phoenix.
The Chinese solar company Suntech
announced today its factory in Goodyear will shut down next month.Suntech had
been making solar panels in the Phoenix
suburb of Goodyear for two years. But in that time the global price of solar panels had fallen by more than
60 percent, according to GTM Research analyst Shyam Mehta.
A new analysis shows it’s unclear what kind of impact proposed
changes to the state’s sales tax system would have on Arizona, and its cities. Those
changes include charging contractors sales tax on their materials where they
buy them, rather than a percentage of their project, and only allowing the state
to conduct audits.

The Tucson City Council has passed an
ordinance aimed at reducing the city’s reliance on plastic shopping bags. Tucson Councilman Paul Cunningham is the

Southern Arizona forest
officials said the wildfire danger is high, and they want people to be careful
with campfires over the holiday weekend. Although the
warm weather is only beginning to set in, the threat of wildfires is already a
concern in southeastern Arizona.
A major producer of frozen foods is recalling products
