KJZZ partners with the Arizona Republic to bring you the Arizona Storytellers series. We record the live events and share them with you on the radio. In Phoenix, the storytellers sometimes share stories about our community or the life events that have shaped them in general. Megan Finnerty is the creator of the series.

Molly Hottle is from Iowa. She's lived in several places before she says she was forced to move to the "beige desert" that is Phoenix.

Hottle didn't know anyone and felt very alone when she first got here. Her family tried to encourage her to like the desert more and even sent her the most beautiful pictures of Arizona sunsets.

Hottle's grandparents planned a trip to come visit her in February 2016 and she had a best of Phoenix tour mapped out. They would visit the sights, get Mexican food and tour Phoenix Children's Hospital where Hottle was working as a brand manager.

Molly Hottle is the Communications Manager at University of Washington.
