A fire has broken out seven miles east of Wittmann, just a week after the Dove Fire burned 1,200 acres in the area. The new blaze, dubbed the White Wing Fire, was estimated at about 500 acres as of Thursday afternoon.

Tiffany Davila with the Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management said ground crews assisted by aircraft are working to help slow the fire.

“With this area specifically, we saw a lot of moisture across the state over the winter," Davila said. "So typically in years past, they’ve been, you know, able to go about their daily activities, whether that’s barbecuing or debris burning or welding, and if they had a fire start, they were able to suppress it very quickly, but now with this heavy fuel load, that’s not possible.”

With temperatures warming up, Davila asks that people be extra careful when conducting outdoor activities.
