A scene from one of the theater's adult slam nights.

For a lot of us, when we think of puppet shows, we think of kids’ birthday parties. But the felt can really fly at the Great Arizona Puppet Theater’s puppet slams, which take on more adult themes, like their puppet predecessors such as Statler and Waldorf from "The Muppets," Madame of "Wayland and Madame" and Kate Monster of "Avenue Q."

For more, I spoke with the theater’s Assistant Artistic Director Gwen Bonar and her mom, Nancy Smith, who is the theater’s director. I asked them how they got the idea to do adult puppet shows.

Their puppet slams are generally held the first Friday and Saturday nights of the month.
