The Greater Phoenix Economic Council was formed a couple of decades ago, with at least the partial goal of diversifying the area's economy and bringing in attractive jobs from other places.

Former Arizona Republic columnist Jon Talton, who now writes about the economy for the Seattle Times and Arizona at RogueColumnist.com, thinks Phoenix should separate itself from GPEC.
