Tempe leaders are accepting applications to fill a vacancy on City Council.

The opening was created Friday when Councilman Kolby Granville was voted out of office by his peers over allegations of misconduct.

If you’ve lived in Tempe for at least two years and are registered to vote in the city, you can apply to be a temporary City Council member.

“The individuals that we select should not be someone who is running for council and would be someone that wouldn’t be seeking a seat after the term ends next July,” said Mayor Mark Mitchell at a special meeting Monday.

The person appointed to the seat will fill the remainder of Granville’s term, which ends in July 2020.

Applications are due April 22 and can be filled out online (starting Tuesday, April 16 at 8 a.m.) or in person at the city clerk’s office on the second floor of City Hall.

Tempe council will hold interviews with up to three applicants May 2 in a public meeting before meeting in executive session.

Council will vote on the appointment May 9 and that person will be sworn in that day.
