Phoenix Focuses On Bioscience With Groundbreaking Of Biomedical Campus Downtown

Wexford Science+Technology has broken ground on its Phoenix campus, the company’s first collaborative bioscience building in the West.
Back when the Great Recession started, Phoenix was a hub for service-sector jobs — jobs in hospitality, retail and construction. But those jobs weren’t particularly sustainable as the economic crisis grew.
So the city has gone in a new direction, pushing the growth of industries like bioscience and healthcare in the last decade.
Thursday, the city celebrated the groundbreaking of a new development on the University of Arizona's Phoenix Biomedical Campus.
The Show spoke with Phoenix Community and Economic Director Christine Mackay to talk more about it.
