Expanded In-State Tuition Bill Heads To Arizona House
A bill that would set one in-state college tuition rate for any student who graduates from an Arizona high school will be debated by the House Education Committee Monday.
Senate Bill 1217, which was approved by the Arizona Senate, would apply even if a student lived out-of-state and returned to Arizona, or is undocumented.
“This is actually like an investment in that we’re just giving a pathway for students to pay into the system, to be able to get a higher education degree and even be better members of society,” said DACA-recipient Reyna Montoya.
Opponents argue giving DACA students in-state tuition violates state law banning benefits for undocumented residents as well as an Arizona Supreme Court ruling denying DACA students in-state tuition.
