Jack Sellers is the newest member of the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors. The current board chose him unanimously to replace former District 1 Supervisor Denny Barney.

Sellers is a former Chandler City Councilman and currently sits on the Arizona State Transportation Board.

“I feel like we are at a point right now where the next several years is going to be critical for us in defining our transportation infrastructure for the future,” Sellers said. Although he is in his last year on the State Transportation Board, Sellers said this new job gives him the chance to continue to play a key role in those decisions.

Board Chairman Bill Gates said serving on the Chandler City Council was good experience for the Board of Supervisors, which, like cities, is called on to make zoning decisions. He also mentioned a similarity between the two men on transportation priorities.

“We spoke about your desire to work on and emphasize smart infrastructure and autonomous vehicles,” said Gates. “That’s one of my priorities, and I know my colleagues share that.”

Sellers will represent District 1, which covers the East Valley. Barney left recently to head up the East Valley Partnership.

Sellers serves out Barney’s term and can run for election to the seat in 2020.
