The National Park Service is looking to deaccession some of the artifacts in its collection. It proposed a rule change that would set up a procedure for the agency to unload objects deemed to be of insufficient archaeological interest. Human remains and other cultural items would not be eligible.

For more on this proposal, I’m joined by Terry Childs, the Manager of the U.S. Interior Department’s Museum Program, and National Park Service Spokeswoman Alexandra Picavet.

Terry Childs Manages the U.S. Interior Department’s Museum Program. We also heard from National Park Service Spokeswoman Alexandra Picavet. The comment period on the proposed rule change runs until mid-February; the final rule is expected to be published sometime later next year.
