Shakespeare told us a rose by any other name would smell just as sweet — but we're not so sure that goes for hurricane names.

So how do hurricanes get their names? Dennis Feltgen of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration said there are six lists of names that are on a six-year rotation with storm names alternating from male to female.

The names are generally associated with the region they form in, like Tony for Atlantic storms verses Tico for Eastern Pacific storms. And, you might not have known this, but NOAA reuses storm names. There is one, big exception to that rule, though.

Feltgen told us naming storms used to be pretty random. And finding names, well, it just took a glance across the dinner table.
