How John McCain Helped An Immigrant Family Come To Arizona

The week-long celebration of the life of the late Sen. John McCain in a series of memorial services focused largely on the big picture — his impact on American foreign policy and international relations.

But when McCain was a freshman congressman, he helped one specific constituent — Tad Fronczak — bring his family to Arizona from Poland. Fronczak had been allowed to leave his home country but not his wife and two children.

John D’Anna of the Arizona Republic was a young reporter at the time who covered the story, and he wrote about it recently in USA Today.
