A Maricopa County detention officer, who returned from a visit to his home country, Sierra Leone, three weeks ago, is back on the job after being quarantined for 21 days out of concerns about Ebola. Officer Moses Kalawa said it was not his usual trip home.

“Normally when I go, it’s like a vacation for me but this time it’s not like a vacation. It’s like just stay home with family members,” Kalawa said.

Kalawa went to Sierra Leone before the Ebola crisis exploded. During the quarantine period his temperature was monitored twice a day.

The nine-year veteran officer works as a jail guard.
