The Arizona Corporation Commission will hold a meeting Friday to address concerns raised by an interim manager working to restore water and sewer systems in the southeast Valley.

The Corporation Commission selected utilities company EPCOR to serve as an interim manager for Johnson Utilities on Aug. 1.

Johnson customers have reported poor water quality, low water pressure, and massive sewage overflows.

EPCOR executives told commissioners they were denied access to certain Johnson financials and they’ve discovered an infrastructure so neglected it could lead to a loss of life.

The commission scheduled the meeting Aug. 16 to address EPCOR’s concerns. On Aug. 21, Commissioner Andy Tobin wrote a letter urging his colleagues to act quickly during “these most dire of times and circumstances.”

The meeting is open to the public and begins at 9:00 a.m.

EDITOR'S NOTE: This story has been updated to reflect that the commission had scheduled the meeting before Andy Tobin wrote his letter and that by the commission's definition it is not an emergency meeting.
