Toast of the Nation- a New Year?s Eve Musical Celebration

 

KJZZ Enews: Toast of the Nation 2012.  Join KJZZ and NPR for a New Year’s Eve Musical Celebration.  The evening begins at 9:00 p.m., as Wynton Marsalis performs live from Dizzy's Club Coca-Cola at Lincoln Center, with a special tribute to Jelly Roll Morton, King Oliver and New Orleans.  At 10:30 p.m., Sing the Truth! Angelique Kidjo, Dianne Reeves, and Lizz Wright sing songs of empowerment and love for the 2011 Detroit Jazz Festival. Music by Mahalia Jackson, Tracy Chapman, Ani DiFranco, Abbey Lincoln, Odetta, Miriam Makeba, and more.  At 11:30 p.m., The Junior Mance Quintet features the veteran bluesy pianist and his young group from Boppin' at the Vineyard with KUVO, Denver.  At 12:00 a.m., The Billy Childs Quartet performs live from The Blue Whale in Los Angeles. At 1:30 a.m., Miguel Zénon performs with his quartet and a 10-piece wind ensemble, interprets music from the Puerto Rican songbook. At 2:00 a.m., Julian Lage, Larry Grenadier and Eric Harland close out the 2012 celebration from the Berklee College of Music, Boston.
