Burton Barr Central Library reopened in Phoenix on June 16, 2018.

Burton Barr Central Library reopened in Phoenix on Saturday, June 16. Last July, a pipe burst and flooded the building, causing it to close for nearly a year.

Marcy Lynn attended the library’s reopening. She says she used to go to Burton Barr all the time before it closed.

"I actually cried when it happened," Lynn said. "I was real upset and spent a lot of time here and had just been here a few days before it happened. So I just wanted to see how it turned out how it had improved.”

In addition to necessary repairs, the renovated library features some expanded and upgraded sections.

"The children’s area seems to be bigger," Lynn said. "I have four grand kids I bring over and it seems to be a little bit bigger than it was before and  I absolutely love the layout. I think things are easy to find. Some things are in different places but it’s great. I love it.”

The library has new computers and table tops, fresh carpet and more outlets for people to charge their devices.

The reopening event included appearances by princesses and magicians as well as other family friendly activities.
