PTSD Identified Among Cancer Patients And Their Caregivers

Post-traumatic stress sisorder is most often identified with soldiers or those who have experienced horrible acts of violence or situations of great sadness.

More recently, the term has become associated with people who are suffering from harsh illnesses like cancer, and to the caregivers who support those patients.

Dr. Fremonta Meyer is a psychiatrist at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute’s Department of Psychosocial Oncology and Palliative Care. She said PTSD rates among cancer survivors are a bit higher than the general population.
