How Can Sad Events Be Memorialized After Buildings Are Razed?

The freshman building at Stoneman Douglas High is going to be torn down following the tragic shootings that happened in February. Sandy Hook Elementary was also razed following the killings there.

So how can sad events be memorialized? Is it more challenging to remember when a structure has been eliminated?
