Sen. John McCain continues to undergo treatment for brain cancer in Arizona. Despite his absence in Washington, D.C., earlier this week, his daughter and several Senate colleagues say he remains influential on Capitol Hill.

Senators paid tribute to the Arizona lawmaker for his work on a budget agreement which includes an extra $300 billion for the Pentagon and other domestic programs over the next two years. Minority Leader Chuck Schumer called it a “genuine breakthrough.” He was also among those saluting McCain, "because he has fought so valiantly and so long for a good agreement for the armed forces.”

McCain has also been working with Delaware’s Democratic Senator Chris Coons on a DACA fix.

On Politico’s Women Rule podcast, McCain’s daughter, Meghan McCain, said right now her father is doing really well.

“He’s very present, we talk about politics all the time and mentally 100 percent there, just physically he tore both of his Achilles tendons and it’s taken some time to get to physical fighting form," Meghan McCain said.

No word on when McCain will return to Washington D.C., though his daughter said it would be very soon.
