Lizbeth Congiusti shares her story at the Crescent Ballroom in Phoenix on Aug 30, 2017.

KJZZ partners with the Arizona Republic to bring you the Arizona Storytellers series. We record the live events and share them with you on the radio. In Phoenix, the storytellers sometimes share stories about our community or the life events that have shaped them in general. Megan Finnerty is the creator of the series.

In 2005, Lizbeth Congiusti was in bed in her Phoenix home when she got a call at two in the morning from a hospital in San Francisco. The doctor told Congiusti that her husband Bob had suffered a subarachnoid hemorrhage.

Congiusti flew out as soon as she could and when she landed, they had to transfer Bob to another hospital.

Surgery to remove the aneurysm had not gone well, so Bob went into surgery again. The doctor said it would take 3 hours to contain the bleeding in Bob's brain. Congiusti waited and waited.

Lizbeth Congiusti lives in Phoenix. Her husband, Bob, passed away in 2016.

The next Storytelling event is Feb. 8, 2018, at Changing Hands Bookstore in Phoenix.
