Nineteen members of the Granite Mountain Hotshots died in 2013 while protecting the town of Yarnell.

A panel has narrowed down its search for an artist to design a memorial for the Granite Mountain Hotshots, who died fighting a wildfire in 2013. The remembrance will be installed in downtown Prescott.

Two of the artists live in Arizona, and one lives in California. The Granite Mountain Hotshots Memorial Partnership announced the finalists after a panel reviewed proposals from 29 artists. The chosen design will go in a 400-square-foot area on the Yavapai County Courthouse Plaza.

Prescott was home to the 19 Granite Mountain Hotshots who died in the Yarnell Hill Fire. It was the deadliest wildfire in Arizona history. The elite firefighting crew has also been honored by a state park. The Granite Mountain Hotshots Memorial State Park opened last year and includes rugged trail to the site where the firefighters died outside the small town of Yarnell.
