There are little worlds all around us that we either take for granted or simply pass by in the course of our everyday lives. Photographer Anand Varma does almost the opposite.

Whether it’s the secret life cycle of the honeybee or giving us new ways to look at hummingbirds frozen in time rather than in constant motion, Varma often focuses on tinier things.

He’ll be presenting many of those images Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m. at the Mesa Arts Center as part of the National Geographic Speakers Series.

His event is called "Beauty and the Bizarre."
