March For Black Women Event To Take Place In Phoenix, D.C.

Last year after the election of Donald Trump, millions of women hit the streets as part of the Women’s March on Washington. This weekend, some will take that spirit one step further, with the March for Black Women.
Organizers are hoping to shed a light on the issues that they say affect black women most: from the propagation of state violence to the widespread incarceration of black women and girls.
The march will take place in Washington, D.C., and one local organizer is hosting a sister march here in Phoenix.
Channel Powe is the CEO of Powe Power and a member of the Balz Elementary School Board. She’s organizing the Phoenix march starting at the historic Eastlake Park this Saturday.
I sat down with her this week to talk about the issues she wants to highlight this weekend and why she thinks it’s important to amplify the unique struggles that black women face here in Arizona and across the country.
