KJZZ partners with the Arizona Republic to bring you the Arizona Storytellers series. We record the live events and share them with you on the radio. In Phoenix, the storytellers sometimes share stories about our community or the life events that have shaped them in general. Megan Finnerty is the creator of the series.

Kyle Mitchell has an 8-year-old son. One day he was playing with his son, and his son asked him why he had such soft hands.

Mitchell said he use to have very rough hands from working with cinder blocks on the Navajo reservation. But during a deployment in Afghanistan, he and his team were assigned to help with a convoy. Mitchell and some of his buddies had to go to the medic tent to restock their kits. He told this story to his son.

Kyle Mitchell is an Army veteran and a Navajo storyteller living in Phoenix.
