KJZZ Flavors of Spain Cooking Experience
KJZZ Flavors of Spain Cooking Experience
May 21 - June 2, 2017
Ten KJZZ Travel Club members spent 13 memorable days exploring Spain from Barcelona to Sevilla to Madrid.
While staying at a Barcelona hotel that doubled as a bakery, they learned the finer points of Spanish cured ham, mastered the art of making paella and Spanish potato omelet, lived like locals while shopping for groceries in open-air markets and sipping on vermouth in traditional bars, and biked through the countryside of the Penedès wine region.
Far to the south in Sevilla, this group experienced the best of Andalucía, from a sherry winery on the Atlantic coast and an all-day cooking class with freshly-caught tuna, to an olive orchard with a tasting of organic olive oils. Central Sevilla regaled them with a flamenco show and a wine-tasting tour in the oldest neighborhood in town.
These travelers next rode the high-speed train to the capital and quickly received a crash course in how to go on a tapas bar crawl in historic downtown Madrid. They also went on a food and market walking tour of the Literary Quarter, perfected their skills at a capstone cooking course, and were guided through a tasting menu paired with five unique Spanish wines.
