Phoenix City Council To Clarify The Term 'Lobbying'

Phoenix city leaders will discuss new regulations for lobbyists. Current city code includes no punishment for those who ignore the rules.

With an annual budget topping more than $1 billion, Phoenix does a lot of business with private companies. From vending machines to police and fire gear, the contracts add up. And, so do the lobbyists.

Now, months after The Arizona Republic reported the city could not enforce its own lobbying regulations, council members could take action.

During a Tuesday afternoon meeting, they’re scheduled to clarify the term "lobbying," provide a definition for "compensation" and sanctions for those who fail to follow the rules.
