Stormy Weather Near French Gulch Fire Dangerous For Fire Fighters

August 21, 2013

The French Gulch Fire, five miles from Yarnell, has grown to 850 acres, and containment has risen to 15 percent. Now, the area is experiencing light showers and the chance for thunderstorms is increasing. National Weather Service Forecaster Justin Johndrow says this could be dangerous for firefighters.

“Whenever there’s an erratic wind gust from thunderstorms that always poses a risk for safety of the fire crews,” Johndrow said. “They definitely have to keep an eye on the conditions.”

Johndrow says the National Weather Service will be monitoring the storms and will call fire crews if any storms are headed their way.
