On Tuesday night, the city of Phoenix officially opened a trade office in Mexico designed to benefit Arizona manufacturers.

The trade office is located more than 300 miles south of Phoenix in Hermosillo, Sonora. That’s where several Valley-based manufacturing firms ship parts and electronic component to automotive and aerospace centers.

The area is dubbed the “Arizona-Sonora megaregion,” and leaders on both sides of the border are marketing the binational supply chain, infrastructure and workforce.

In a press release, Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton says the new office will help company leaders connect with vendors and seek out foreign investment in Arizona. In 2014, Phoenix joined other local entities to help open the Arizona State Trade and Investment Office in Mexico City

According to the Arizona-Mexico Commission, Arizona exports totaled $9.1 billion in 2015, while Arizona imported $7.6 billion from Mexico. The commission says 100,000 jobs in Arizona are supported by trade with Mexico.
