A breach in a state database has put job seekers at risk of identity theft. Arizona is among ten states with potentially compromised records.

A hacker gained access to the Arizona Job Connection website, where more than 19,000 people have posted resumes. The Kansas-based company that manages the database said an outside hacker created a job seeker account, exploited a misconfiguration in the code and gained access to names, birth dates and Social Security numbers. 

While the company said there is no longer a threat, a forensic firm is trying to determine how many accounts were accessed and where those job seekers live. 

In a written statement, Henry Darwin, Interim Director for Arizona’s Department of Economic Security, said the agency is taking action to ensure client privacy is not compromised in the future.
