Federal health officials say Arizona’s obesity rate last year was similar to its rate over the previous two years.

The federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention say Arizona’s obesity rate in 2013 was 26.8 percent. That puts it higher than neighbors California, Colorado, Utah, Nevada and New Mexico. But, Arizona falls into a category with nearly half of the states nationwide.

Hawaii had the lowest prevalence rate, at nearly 22 percent.

But, the CDC says among African-American adults, Arizona’s prevalence rate was 32.5 percent, and among Hispanic adults, it was nearly 34 percent. Among white adults, the state’s rate was 22 percent.
