As Arizona’s U.S. Senate race enters its final stretch, Ann Kirkpatrick is digging in with her attacks on John McCain over his previous support of Donald Trump.

The Democrat feels she now has the momentum and the state’s changing demographics on her side as early voting begins around the state. The congresswoman from Flagstaff sat down with KJZZ’s Phil Latzman.

Is John McCain's age (80) at age an issue?

"I don't think it's an issue. I think it's more an issue that he's out of touch with Arizona. I have seven district offices in my Congressional district. John McCain represents the whole state and he only has three offices... I will tell you the number one thing I hear about John McCain regardless of party is they can't believe he didn't stand up for himself when Donald Trump insulted him. They're just saying you know if he won't stand up for himself, he won't stand up for us."

How do you beat John McCain, he's never lost an Arizona election?

"He's very vulnerable this cycle. When I decided to get into the race, he was the least liked senator in his home state in the whole country...I've been traveling all over the district letting people know they have a real choice and that it's time for new principled leadership in Arizona."

"There is a path to turning Arizona blue and Ryan, I have turned two congressional districts from red to blue. Probably the best example is the 2014 race. In my congressional district, which is just about half the state of Arizona, goes from the Utah border to the Cochise County line. We boosted turnout for the election 10 points over the rest of the state. Not only did I win 2014, I expanded my win margin over 2012 and statewide Democrats won my congressional district. So the folks are there, you just have to make sure they get the polls and their ballots count."
