After Donald Trump’s recent controversial remarks about women, Arizona Sen. John McCain withdrew his support for his party’s nominee.

So who’s he planning to vote for instead?

McCain had an interesting answer to that question during this week's Arizona PBS debate with Democratic opponent Rep. Ann Kirkpatrick.

“I think I might write in Lindsey Graham. He’s an old friend of mine and a lot of people like him,” McCain said.

There’s just one problem with that.

McCain’s vote would not count.

In Arizona, write-in candidates must have submitted paperwork with the Secretary of State and be on an official list.

“You can certainly write-in anyone else you would like to. That vote will simply not count for that race,” said Elizabeth Bartholomew, a spokesperson with the Maricopa County Recorder’s Office.

Sixteen candidates are on the write-in list for president this year in Arizona. None of them are Lindsey Graham.
