ASU’s Public Service Academy was started after school President Michael Crow heard NBC’s Tom Brokaw speak at the Aspen Institute. Brokaw called for a way to develop the next generation of leaders. By the end of its first year, the academy had 117 students. Every year 150 freshmen will be added.

Lt. Gen. Benjamin Freakley serves as a special advisor to Michael Crow on leadership initiatives.
