Tempe-Based Band Refreshments Marks 20th Anniversary Of Seminal Album
Twenty years ago, a lot of the music scene and the airwaves were dominated by grunge — bands like Nirvana and Pearl Jam, Soundgarden and Stone Temple Pilots.
It didn’t seem like there was much room for other kinds of rock. That was the environment with Roger Clyne and his bandmates from the Tempe-based Refreshments when the band started getting approached by record labels that wanted to sign them. Ultimately, Mercury Records released "Fizzy Fuzzy Big and Buzzy," which put the Refreshments on tour and on the radio.
Clyne has marked the 20th anniversary of the album by playing it in its entirety solo and acoustic.
