Contract Negotiations Continue For Phoenix City Bus Strikers
Contract negotiations continue Monday as a bus strike in Phoenix moves through its 4th day, impacting 34 major city routes.
Some issues include wage and bereavement time. Union officials also are working through other contract provisions about employee termination policies and safety equipment.
Bob Bean is the union chapter president. He said employees on strike recently received letters that their medical insurance has been stopped.
"This company has stooped to a low that I have never seen in 37 years in transportation and union work," Bean said.
The strike impacts 34 city routes.
Officials with the bus company said employees are only entitled to benefits if they’re working, but adds those striking could elect to continue medical coverage through COBRA. In a statement the company said the union had a very good offer on the table, and it hopes the strike ends soon.
