It may soon be easier to find a parking spot in downtown Flagstaff and other parts of the city, but it will likely cost you.

The Flagstaff City Council has agreed a parking permit plan proposed by staff and local stakeholders is potentially a good solution to current parking problems. But, they’ve asked staffers to get back to them with information on how the program would be implemented and enforced.

The Arizona Daily Sun says the plan would institute residential and employee permit parking programs, with limited time parking in certain parts of the city, and use pay to park zones with kiosks instead of parking meters.

Neighborhoods would have to petition the city to join the program, with at least 51 percent of the property owners on a block being required to endorse the permit program. Employees and visitors could buy parking passes from the kiosks. Costs would vary, depending on the location of the parking spot and other factors.
