Maneki-neko - "beckoning cat" statues for sale at the Matsuri Festival, Feb. 23, 2020. The statues are a traditional Japanese good-luck charm and are often seen at the front of stores.

This week’s episode continues examining the art of haiku and Japanese culture as Tom Maxedon and his guest John Sachen preview the Arizona Matsuri Festival of Japan which is Feb. 23-24, 2019, in downtown Phoenix.

John is an avid haiku poet and administrates a contest each year that is connected to the festival.

Find out more about matsuri, which means "festival" in the Japanese language at azmatsuri.org
