The Udall Foundation, created in 1992 to honor former Arizona Congressman Morris Udall, awards scholarships to Native American students.

A House subcommittee recently heard testimony on a bill to extend the program, which was introduced by Arizona Republican Juan Ciscomani.

The Udall Foundation, an executive-branch agency, offers scholarships for students who study natural resources policy, tribal sovereignty and health care.

Congressman Raul Grijalva said the bill, which would fund the scholarships through 2028, offers students a chance to give back to the communities where they grew up.

The committee also heard testimony on a bill to expedite loans for Native home and business mortgages.
