Phoenix will pay $1 million after 2 brothers fatally shot
Phoenix will pay $1 million to a woman who blames police for the deaths of her adult children.
The settlement, approved Monday by the City Council, comes nearly three years after 44-year old Emmett Cocreham and 43-year old George Cocreham were fatally shot. Their mother had called 911 after barricading herself in her room, afraid the older son would hurt her.
On Oct. 20, 2020, two officers initially responded to a home near 24th Street and Indian School Road. They reported seeing a man inside the house with a gun.
The complaint accused police of failing to defuse the situation and instead created chaos by calling for more backup and a helicopter.
According to media reports, the claim also alleged officers failed to provide life-saving aid and left one brother on the ground for more than 20 minutes before getting medical attention.
