Report counts 101 domestic violence deaths in Arizona last year
A new report says 101 murder victims in Arizona last year were killed as a result of domestic violence.
The unofficial count based on news reports is compiled by the Arizona Coalition to End Sexual and Domestic Violence.
CEO Jenna Panas said, in Arizona, homicides can get tagged as domestic violence based on a range of relational definitions, such as whether the killer was once romantically involved with the victim.
“But those tags aren’t reported in a sustained or universal way across the state. Nor are they compiled in a sustained or universal way across the state,” she said.
Panas also said most often domestic violence murders involve a male killing their female partner with a handgun.
