Arizona Public Service customers could see a rate hike as early as December if state regulators grant a pending request by the utility.

The public’s chances to sound off on the proposal to state Corporation Commissioners start next week.

The Arizona Corporation Commission is scheduled to hear public comments on the proposed rate increase on June 1, 7 and 20, plus July 31.

APS has said it wants rates that more accurately reflect a growing cost to deliver service.

The utility wants regulators to give permission to increase the net customer rate by $460 million a year.

APS says this would translate to $18 more each month for the average residential customer. But real results will vary.

The Corporation Commission will vote on the APS proposal after an administrative law judge weighs in.
