Arizona bill is the latest in a long history of Pledge of Allegiance fights

“I pledge allegiance to the flag” — it’s something that’s been said countless times in our country’s history, but the Pledge of Allegiance doesn’t go back as far as you might think. And it has always been a source of debate.

Now there’s a bill making its way through the Arizona Legislature that would require students in public schools to recite the pledge. They could only be excused by the request of a parent.

The Show spoke more about it with Liz Evans, a longtime Arizona teacher and now civic education program director at the Center for Political Thought and Leadership at ASU.
