Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Horne ran his campaign on "empowering parents."

Now, the Republican leader has launched a hotline for them.

The Arizona Department of Education’s website calls it the Empower Hotline. It encourages parents to report "inappropriate lessons that detract from teaching academic standards."

Horne said so far, there haven’t been many credible complaints.

“The only one that has been worth pursuing was something that involved possible sexual misconduct and we’ve referred that to the police," he said.

Horne is especially concerned about lessons related to critical race theory or what he describes as teachings that focus on race or ethnicity, rather than people as individuals.

Horne is also worried about what he calls "inappropriate sexual content."

He added that one school district is disciplining a teacher for preaching gospel to students.
