Arizona Education Association president encouraged by Gov. Hobbs' proposals
Gov. Katie Hobbs put an emphasis on reinvesting in the state’s public schools, in her first State of the State address Monday. Arizona Education Association President Marisol Garcia said she’s encouraged by Hobbs’ proposals.
"We were really excited to have the governor actually speak directly to public school teachers and families and students," Garcia said. "It was the first time in a long time and it actually helped, I think, a lot of us put our head up and our shoulders back."
During her speech, Hobbs said: "To the teachers and education support professionals of our state, I see you, I respect you, and I will always stand up for you."
Hobbs' priorities include overriding the school spending cap, working on teacher retention, and ramping up accountability for institutions that accept school vouchers.
