The Citizens Clean Elections Commission, Arizona's voter education agency, will host debates for Arizona’s legislative and statewide races prior to the upcoming general election.

The debate between gubernatorial candidates was recently cancelled. Democrat Katie Hobbs’ campaign announced Sept. 11 that she would not debate Republican Kari Lake as the two battle for the Arizona governor’s office, calling off any negotiations with Lake and the state commission overseeing debates.

The commission's Gina Roberts says most debates will take place before ballots are sent out in October.

“That way they have enough time to educate themselves on the candidates and the issues,” Roberts said.

All debates will be livestreamed on the commission’s YouTube channel. Statewide debates will also be broadcast on Arizona PBS. Roberts adds that voters can have their voices heard during the debates.

“They can submit questions to the Clean Elections office about the issues that are important to them, and we’ll make sure to talk to the candidates about it so the voters can vote informed,” Roberts said.

Voters can view the complete debate schedule at azcleanelections.gov.
