Republican Senate candidate Blake Masters, whose campaign was bankrolled by tech investor Peter Thiel, won his Republican primary in Arizona after echoing former President Donald Trump's lies of a stolen election and playing up cultural grievances that animate the right, including critical race theory and allegations of big tech censorship.

With 97% of precincts reporting on Wednesday morning, Masters had 39% of the vote. His next closest challenger was retired energy executive Jim Lamon with just under 29%. Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich was in third with about 18%.

Masters has called for reducing legal immigration and espoused the baseless “great replacement” conspiracy theory, claiming Democrats are trying to “replace Americans who were born here.”

Masters will take on incumbent Democratic Sen. Mark Kelly in the fall.
